Post-game 4/28: Phillies 7, Nationals 1

Boy, there really is something supernatural about the bad luck that’s befallen Cole Hamels early this season.
After looking good in his last start against Milwaukee, Hamels had to leave after being drilled in the shoulder by a Prince Fielder comebacker.
Tuesday, it was another fielding incident that hurt Hamels, and this one may have a bigger [...]

Lidge injured? Madson to close?

Per Scott Lauber:
Our man, Geoff Mosher, was in the Phillies’ clubhouse tonight when Lidge admitted he got a cortisone shot last week. If Lidge is having knee trouble, that would explain his mechanical problems and his flawed control. Few saves have been easy for Lidge lately. On Saturday night, he loaded the bases before white-knuckling [...]

The homer watch continues

The Major League record for consecutive games with at least one opposing homer allowed is 26.
Phillies pitchers have done this in each of their first 13 games (14 if the final game of 2008 is to be counted). The watch is on!
Nothing else to see here, really. Carry on!

Pre-game 4/19: Padres @ Phillies

It appears San Diego will be starting Josh Geer (NR) during this afternoon’s game. Walter Silva had originally been scheduled to start, but he is likely headed to the DL.
Charlie Manuel’s lineup has four consecutive lefties in it: Matt Stairs is starting for Jayson Werth in right, batting in the six spot
Jimmy Rollins has the [...]

Post-game 4/18: Padres 8, Phillies 5 (w/LiveBlog)

The transcript says it all. The bullpen falters yet again and spoils a decent offensive effort because of, you guessed it, opposing home runs.
Disgusting.
Lidge’s streak is over – even though it never should have been that long, anyway – and the Phillies are two games under .500, already 5.5 games back in the division. April [...]

Opposing homers analyzed

Thus far, the Phillies have allowed a ridiculous 23 opposing homers in nine games. This is about half a home run more per game than the average in the N.L., and that average is probably inflated by the Phils’ outlier number.
It’s been frustrating to watch for the first two weeks. True, the Phillies haven’t exactly [...]

Post-game 4/17: Padres 8, Phillies 7

I really don’t have the eergy to type much after the way tonight’s game – as well as the Flyers game – went down.
Blowing a 7-1 lead after four with Cole Hamels on the mound? To the Padres? This team finds the most frustrating ways to lose, and give up a ton of homers in [...]

Phillies @ Nationals 4/15 postponed

With heavy rains in the area, the Phillies and Nationals are going to postpone tonight’s game before fans have to leave their homes.
Rookie catcher Lou Marson was set to start and bat eighth, but it appears that his second Major League start will be deferred. With the extra day, I wonder if Cole Hamels will [...]

Post-game 4/13: Phillies 9, Nationals 8

In a game they really could not afford to lose – more for emotion than position – the Phillies hung on against the Nationals.
Brad Lidge picked up another save, but not before allowing a two-run dinger to Ryan Zimmerman to make things interesting.
The Phils are still allowing a stupid amount of opposing home runs, but [...]

Harry Kalas passes away

According to multiple sources, legendary Phillies broadcaster, friend, icon, and voice of a generation Harry Kalas has passed away.
According to Twitter reports posted by both Todd Zoleci (@tzolecki) and David Murphy (@HighCheese), and now as well as multiple national news sources,  Kalas died after being rushed to the hospital earlier this afternoon in Washington, D.C. [...]
