This article over at MLB.com cites an unnamed, anonymous source as saying the free agent 1B Mark Teixeira has interest in playing for the Washington Nationals.
This source claims that a bit of hometown nostalgia may win the big prize over.
Teixeira is from Maryland and is thinking about the possibility of playing in Washington. He played baseball, basketball and soccer at Mt. St. Joseph’s High School in Baltimore. He set Maryland state records for career homers (29), RBIs (105) and runs (128).
“[Maryland] is his home,” said the source. “In some instances, I think players often tend to look at that in a different light than other franchises.”
I, personally, find it hard to believe that a team in the midst of rebuilding and without even half of a solid pitching staff would throw $150M+ at Teixeira, home cooking or not.
Whatever the case, I’d really rather not have to deal with facing the switcheroo slugger in 18 games, 55-plus at-bats a year. Not that it seems likely in the first.
