Voter’s block

Go check out this poll. It asks a fairly simple question: if Derek Lowe is somehow signed against all odds, is he the team’s number one pitcher?

The question may be simple, but that doesn’t mean it’s anywhere close to good or right. Let’s play a round of Who Would You Rather, shall we? These are numbers from the past three seasons.

Pitcher A: 543 IP, 473 H, 207 ER, 518 K, 144 BB, 1.14 WHIP, 133 ERA+, cost-controlled until 2012
Pitcher B: 628 IP, 609 H, 250 ER, 417 K, 159 BB, 1.22 WHIP, 125 ERA+, old

One is 36 next June, one is 25 this month. While the difference isn’t astounding statistically, the difference in age on top of the already apparent edge makes this a pretty silly thing to ask.

  1. Good thing people aren’t that stupid. 98% say no. And they’re right!

That’s true, I neglected to mention that. At least the voters have common sense.
