On Sunday, Braves centerfielder Jordan Schafer rocked a solo home run to dead center off Brett Myers in the second inning.
It’s become tradition to just launch every opposing player’s home run back to the outfield grass. Why should this be any different?
The woman who caught the ball was goaded by, essentially, the entire stadium to toss the ball back. Not wanting to face ridicule for the rest of the game, she did.
Minutes later, Braves officials came to her seat, approaching her for possession of the ball, apparently oblivious to the fact that she had tossed it away. They were offering monetary compensation, as it was Schafer’s first career hit and home run.
Whoops. Can’t blame everyone for not knowing everything about every player, but it sure wouldn’t have hurt here.
