This was a game I felt very comfortable about through nearly the entire nine innings.
Brett Myers racked up the first quality start for the Phillies this season – despite giving up three more homers, giving Philly an astounding 11 allowed through five games – and Ryan Madson and Brad Lidge combined to shut down the final two innings.
Shane Victorino was on base five times and Ryan Howard hit a go-ahead, bases-clearing double in the third to set the tempo. Raul Ibanez also added a solo homer.
Not much to gripe about in this game, except the dingers. You can attribute the opposing power surge to Citizens Bank Park and Coors Field – likely suspects – but they can’t be scapegoats.
