Per Scott Lauber:
Our man, Geoff Mosher, was in the Phillies’ clubhouse tonight when Lidge admitted he got a cortisone shot last week. If Lidge is having knee trouble, that would explain his mechanical problems and his flawed control. Few saves have been easy for Lidge lately. On Saturday night, he loaded the bases before white-knuckling his way to a 34-pitch save.
Lidge has been extremely erratic with his fastball, and 50-50 with his slider. This goes a long way toward explaining his slow start. Ryan Madson would almost certainly be in line to close, should Lidge require a DL stint.
Would this pave the way for Carlos Carrasco to come up? Unlikely. If Carrasco is to come up, it would almost certainly be as a starter and starter only; bullpen work probably wouldn’t do him any good at this point.
Whatever the case, it’ll be touch-and-go for a little while.
